Professor Carol Arinze-Umobi Appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor of UNIZIK

In a key leadership transition at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Professor Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi has been appointed as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution. Her appointment follows the completion of tenure by the former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph I. Ikechebelu.

The university’s Governing Council officially announced the appointment on Friday, May 17, 2025.

A New Chapter Begins at UNIZIK

The announcement was confirmed in a formal letter signed by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Barrister Olugbenga M. Kukoyi. According to the letter, the decision is in line with Section 5(13) of the university’s Act, which permits an acting vice-chancellor to serve for no longer than six months or until a substantive vice-chancellor is appointed—whichever comes first.

Professor Arinze-Umobi is scheduled to assume office on Monday, May 19, 2025.
