JAMB UTME 2027 Exam Dates and Medical School Admission Requirements Explained
If you’re preparing for university admission in Nigeria, understanding the JAMB UTME 2027 exam dates and admission requirements is crucial to your success. Recently, a Nigerian student secured medical school admission with a UTME score of 330 out of 400, alongside strong high school results. However, admission is highly competitive—Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) received 60,370 applications for just 13,900 slots. This guide breaks down what you need to know about JAMB 2027 and how to maximize your chances.
JAMB UTME 2027 Exam Dates: Mark Your Calendar
The Federal Ministry of Education has released the harmonized 2027 examination timetable. According to the proposed schedule, the JAMB UTME examination will hold from March 15–25, 2027, with results expected in March 2027. This gives you several months to prepare adequately.
In addition, NECO SSCE exams are scheduled for April 2027. Therefore, if you’re sitting for both WAEC and NECO, you’ll need strategic time management to excel in all assessments.
What Score Do You Need for Medical School Admission?
The benchmark for university admission varies by programme and institution. The successful medical school candidate scored 330/400 in UTME—a competitive score in the health sciences category. However, this alone doesn’t guarantee admission.
Universities also consider:
- WAEC/NECO high school results (minimum credits in core subjects)
- Post-UTME screening test performance
- Meeting specific course cut-off marks (typically 180–200+ for competitive programmes)
- Available admission slots at the institution
For instance, approximately 25,000 OAU candidates scored at least 200 in UTME, but only about 15,033 met the university’s screening requirements.
Key Admission Requirements for Nigerian Universities
Therefore, securing admission requires meeting multiple criteria:
- JAMB UTME Score: Aim for 250+ for competitive programmes; 300+ increases your chances significantly
- High School Results: Minimum of 5 credits in WAEC/NECO, including English and Mathematics
- Post-UTME Screening: Many universities conduct additional tests; score well to boost your overall application
- Avoid Admission Racketeering: Apply only through official JAMB portal and university websites. Universities regularly warn against fake admission consultants and illegal channels
Furthermore, the National Universities Commission (NUC) and JAMB strictly regulate the admission process to ensure fairness. Always verify your admission letter through the official university portal before celebrating.

Understanding UTME Cut-Off Marks and Course Selection
Universities set cut-off marks for different programmes. Health sciences programmes like Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy typically have higher cut-offs (200–250+) compared to education or humanities (150–180). Therefore, research your intended university’s cut-off marks before the exam.
During the JAMB registration, you’ll select four courses in order of preference. Choose wisely—your UTME score determines eligibility for each option.
Frequently Asked Questions About JAMB UTME 2027
What is the minimum UTME score needed for medical school admission in Nigeria?
While there’s no universal minimum, competitive candidates typically score 280–350+. However, success also depends on your high school results, post-UTME performance, and available spaces. The student mentioned in recent news scored 330/400, which is a strong benchmark. Always check your target university’s specific cut-off mark on the JAMB portal.
When exactly will JAMB UTME 2027 hold, and how long do I have to prepare?
The JAMB UTME examination is scheduled for March 15–25, 2027, with results expected in March. Registration typically opens in January 2027. This gives you roughly 4–5 months of dedicated study time from now. Start preparing early with JAMB-approved study materials and mock exams.
Is a 330/400 UTME score enough to gain admission to any Nigerian university?
A 330 score is excellent and meets the requirements for most university programmes, including competitive ones like Medicine. However, admission also depends on post-UTME screening results, high school grades, and available spaces. Some universities are highly competitive—OAU received 60,370 applications for just 13,900 slots, so even strong scores don’t guarantee admission everywhere.
Avoid Common Pitfalls in the Admission Process
Universities have warned candidates to be vigilant against admission racketeering. Never pay money to fake consultants claiming to secure admission for you. All legitimate admission processes go through official JAMB and university channels.
Moreover, always cross-check your admission status on the official university portal and JAMB website before reporting to campus.
