Education Minister Condemns Kebbi School Attack, Vows Swift Action to Rescue Abducted Girls
Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Chief Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa FAMedS, CON, has expressed profound grief and outrage following the deadly attack on Government Girls School, Maga, in Kebbi State—an assault that led to the abduction of several students and the killing of the school’s Vice Principal.
In a somber statement, Dr. Alausa described the incident as “heartbreaking and deeply painful,” acknowledging the shock reverberating through families, educators, and communities across the state.
A Brutal Attack on a School Community
The tragic incident unfolded when armed assailants invaded Government Girls School, Maga—a public school dedicated to empowering young girls through education. During the chaos, several students were abducted, and the Vice Principal, described as a committed and selfless education leader, was killed while performing his duties.
The Minister condemned the attack as a direct assault on Nigeria’s youth, its education system, and the nation’s future.
“No parent should send a child to school and never see them return,” he said. “No teacher should lose their life while shaping the minds of future generations.”
Condolences and Support for Affected Families
In his message, Dr. Alausa extended heartfelt sympathy to:
- Families of the abducted students
- Relatives of the slain Vice Principal
- Staff and pupils of Government Girls School, Maga
- Residents and community members across Kebbi State
He described the attack as “cruel, senseless, and deeply distressing,” underscoring that violence against schools threatens national development and peace.
Federal Government and Security Agencies Mobilize
The Federal Ministry of Education has initiated close collaboration with national security and intelligence agencies, alongside the Kebbi State Government, to:
- Ensure the safe and prompt rescue of the abducted girls
- Provide structured support to the traumatized school community
- Bring the perpetrators to justice through lawful and transparent means
Dr. Alausa stressed that this coordinated effort will continue—unwavering and uncompromised—until all missing students are safely recovered and those responsible are held accountable.
Renewed Commitment to Safer Schools Nationwide
The Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to making Nigerian schools safer, especially in regions facing higher threats. He emphasized the Ministry’s ongoing agenda to:
- Strengthen school safety frameworks
- Work closely with state governments and security bodies
- Support teachers and learners in vulnerable communities
“Every classroom should be a place of peace, learning, and hope—not fear,” he said. “Our children deserve safe learning environments, and our teachers must be able to do their jobs without danger.”
A Message of Resolve and Hope
Closing his statement, Dr. Alausa asserted that the tragic attack has only strengthened the resolve of the entire education sector.
He assured Nigerians that the Federal Ministry of Education will intensify its work with partners to ensure schools across the country remain places of protection, growth, and optimism for all young learners.
