University of Ilorin Suspends Late Certificate Collection Fee—Here’s What Graduates Need to Know
The University of Ilorin has announced a temporary suspension of the late collection penalty for graduates who have not yet picked up their certificates, in a decision aimed at easing financial pressure on former students.
The decision, which was communicated via an internal memo dated April 24, 2025, and signed by the University Registrar, Mr. Mansur Alfanla, FCIML, comes as a response to widespread appeals from parents, alumni, and stakeholders.
This six-week waiver began on April 22, 2025, and will end on June 2, 2025.
Why This Matters: A Brief Background
Before this decision, graduates who had not collected their certificates by January 17, 2025, were charged a ₦3,000 weekly penalty. For many, this fee quietly accumulated into a significant amount — some graduates owed up to ₦39,000 by late April.
The university has now hit pause on the fee in what many view as a considerate move following calls for leniency.
What You Should Do Now
All affected graduates are strongly advised to visit the University and collect their certificates before June 2, 2025, to avoid further charges. After this deadline, the ₦3,000 per week penalty will be reinstated and continue to accumulate.
This is a critical window of opportunity for many graduates who have delayed the collection process due to various reasons, including financial constraints or logistical issues.
Final Word: Don’t Miss This Grace Period
The University management describes this move as a “burden-relief measure” and urges all concerned individuals to take advantage of the waiver period.
“We listened to the voices of our alumni and their families,” said Registrar Alfanla. “This temporary suspension is a gesture of goodwill — but it will not be extended beyond June 2.”

BOTTOM LINE: If you graduated from UNILORIN and haven’t collected your certificate, now is the time. Avoid future charges. Act before June 2, 2025.
