Calling all Nigerian law students: The 2025 Adeola Oyinlade & Co National Essay Competition is now open for entries!
This prestigious competition challenges law students across Nigeria to critically examine the relationship between taxation policies and national development. With a special focus on how tax laws are implemented, participants will explore key gaps between policy and execution in the context of Nigeria’s evolving tax reform bills.

“Taxation and Development in Nigeria: Bridging the Gap Between Policy and Implementation”
Nigeria is undergoing significant reforms in its tax policies, and the competition seeks essays that delve into how effective these tax laws are in promoting economic growth. How well do the policies translate into real-world results? This is your chance to showcase your research and critical thinking skills.
Who Can Apply?
The competition is open to Nigerian law students from 100 to 500 levels in any accredited Nigerian tertiary institution. It is not open to law graduates or students in the Nigerian Law School.
Submission Guidelines
- Format: Microsoft Word
- Font: Times New Roman, size 12, double-spaced, justified alignment
- Referencing Style: OSCOLA
- Word Limit: 1,500 words (excluding footnotes)
- Submission Deadline: February 21, 2025, by 12 midnight.

- Winners will be announced on Adeola Oyinlade & Co’s LinkedIn page.
Important Submission Rules
- Essays must be original (plagiarism will lead to disqualification).
- Only one submission per student is allowed.
- Co-authored entries will not be accepted.
- Essays should not contain personal details, including school names, except for the entrant’s full name.
- The word count must strictly follow the guideline of 1,500 words.
Prizes for Winners
Winning entries will receive exciting prizes, including:
- First Prize: ₦300,000, an internship at Adeola Oyinlade & Co, and an essay publication on Mondaq.
- Second Prize: ₦200,000 and an internship at Adeola Oyinlade & Co.
- Third Prize: ₦100,000 and an internship at Adeola Oyinlade & Co.
- 4th to 10th Place: ₦50,000 each and an internship at Adeola Oyinlade & Co.
- Certificates: All qualifying participants will receive certificates of participation.

Essays will be judged based on originality, clarity of argument, depth of analysis, relevance to the topic, grammar and spelling, and adherence to submission rules.
No Popularity Contests, Just Merit
The selection process is based strictly on merit. Social media sharing, votes, or popularity contests will not influence the judging or results.
