ASUU Launches Scholarship Scheme to Support Indigent Students in Nigerian Universities
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has unveiled a new scholarship initiative aimed at providing financial support to underprivileged students in public universities across Nigeria. This scholarship is designed to ease the burden of tuition and other educational expenses, helping students focus on their academic success.
What You Need to Know About the ASUU Scholarship Program
Amount: ₦200,000 per beneficiary
Number of Beneficiaries: Two students per ASUU branch
The scholarship targets indigent students who meet the eligibility criteria and offers a significant opportunity for those in need of financial assistance.
Eligibility Requirements
To apply for the ASUU scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
- Be an indigent student enrolled in a Nigerian university with an ASUU branch.
- Have a CGPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Be registered for the current semester.
How to Apply
Interested students should submit a letter of application (no more than two pages) containing:
- Full name
- Course and year of study
- State of origin
Applicants must also include:
- A photocopy of a valid student ID card.
- A letter from the Head of Department confirming the CGPA for the last academic session.
- A copy of the current semester’s registration form.
- Two recent passport-sized photographs.
Selection Process
Each ASUU branch will form a committee to oversee the scholarship selection process. This committee will:
- Issue a public call for applications.
- Review all applications and conduct interviews with candidates.
- Select two students per branch to receive the scholarship.
Selected candidates will be confirmed by the ASUU Congress and sent to the National Secretariat. Scholarships will be awarded at the zonal level, except for the zone hosting the next National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, where it will be presented at the national level.
Deadline for Applications
Applications must be submitted by January 24, 2025. Any branch that fails to meet this deadline will not participate in the scholarship program for the 2024/2025 academic year.
