NYSC Warns Against Fake Pamphlet Advising Corps Members to Pay Ransom

November 21, 2025 – The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a strong warning against a fake safety pamphlet circulating online, which falsely advises corps members to pay ransom in the event of kidnapping.

The NYSC Management clarified that the document is not part of any official safety guide, is not a policy, and should be ignored by staff and corps members.

According to a statement by Caroline Embu, Director of Information and Public Relations, the fake pamphlet was presented to NYSC in 2021 by a consultant but was never adopted as official guidance.

“The document being circulated does not represent the Scheme’s policy regarding the security of staff or corps members,” the statement read. “It should be ignored.”

The NYSC emphasized its commitment to the welfare and safety of corps members and staff. The management assured that it will continue to collaborate with security agencies and other stakeholders to safeguard all personnel.

Corps members are urged to verify all safety materials through official NYSC channels and be vigilant against false messages that could put lives at risk.

“Nigeria is Ours; Nigeria We Serve,” the NYSC concluded in its advisory.
