Meiosis is cell division which forms gametes with haploid number of chromosomes. A diploid parent cell gives rise to four haploid gametes. At the beginning of meiosis, each member of a pair of homologous chromosomes moves to lie side by side so that all parts of the two chromosomes .match exactly The chromatids of one chromosome are in contact with that of the other chromosome at certain points called chiasmata. Meiosis involves two divisions. The first division involve the separation of the members of the homologous pair from one another. The second division involves the separation of the chromatids of each chromosome.
