UNILORIN to Graduate 11,886 Students as It Celebrates 50 Years of Academic Brilliance
The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) is set to graduate a total of 11,886 students during its 40th Convocation Ceremonies, which also mark the institution’s Golden Jubilee Anniversary, celebrating five decades of academic excellence and public service.
Speaking at a pre-convocation press briefing on Monday, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole (SAN), highlighted the institution’s growth, achievements, and unwavering commitment to national development over the last 50 years.
Breakdown of UNILORIN’s 2025 Graduating Class
According to the Vice Chancellor, the 11,886 graduating students span across multiple faculties and programmes. The classification of degrees includes:
- First Class: 316 students
- Second Class Upper: 4,120 students
- Second Class Lower: 5,939 students
- Third Class: 1,078 students
- Pass: 11 students
Professor Egbewole further revealed a breakdown of graduates from professional programmes:
- MB;BS: 175
- Nursing: 94
- Optometry: 40
- Veterinary Medicine: 36
- Physiotherapy: 64
- Diploma: 13
In addition, 1,520 postgraduate degrees will be conferred, comprising:
- 182 Postgraduate Diplomas
- 916 Master’s Degrees
- 188 Professional Master’s Degrees
- 234 Doctoral Degrees (Ph.Ds)
The convocation and Golden Jubilee ceremonies will hold from Sunday, November 23 to Friday, November 28, 2025.
UNILORIN at 50: A Legacy of Learning and Service
Reflecting on the university’s 50-year journey, Professor Egbewole described the milestone as a symbol of “five decades of dedication to learning, integrity, and public service.”
He also acknowledged the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for its unwavering support. During the 2025 academic year, UNILORIN received ₦2.56 billion across 11 key areas, including staff development, ICT enhancement, entrepreneurship, and career services.
Additional interventions included:
- ₦300 million zonal intervention support
- ₦4 billion under the Special High Impact Project (SHIP) for upgrading facilities at the College of Health Sciences
- ₦750 million for a new hostel project within the same college
The funds were officially presented by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, in April 2025.
Supporting Students and Expanding Access
In a move to ensure financial inclusion, UNILORIN also benefited from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), securing ₦1.59 billion in loans for 12,983 students.
Professor Egbewole commended the initiative, saying it guarantees that “no student drops out due to financial hardship.”
He reaffirmed the university’s mission to uphold academic excellence and nurture globally competitive graduates.
“Our 50-year story is one of perseverance and purpose. UNILORIN will continue to produce graduates who are well-prepared to impact their communities and the wider world,” the Vice Chancellor said.
