UNILORIN Secures Full NUC Accreditation for 36 Courses — Here’s What It Means for You

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has achieved a major milestone as the National Universities Commission (NUC) granted full accreditation to 36 out of the 37 academic programmes it submitted for review. The only exception was the Hausa programme, which received interim accreditation. No course was denied approval.

This development follows the NUC’s rigorous accreditation exercise conducted in October and November 2024. The results were formally communicated in a letter dated April 30, 2025, addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN.

What Does Accreditation Really Mean?

Understanding the meaning of full and interim accreditation is essential for current and prospective students:

  • Full Accreditation: The course has met all national standards in areas such as teaching quality, staff qualifications, facilities, and course content. Graduates can confidently use their degrees for employment, postgraduate studies, and professional certifications.
  • Interim Accreditation: The course still meets most standards but requires improvement in certain areas before it can be fully accredited. This status is temporary and typically addressed within a short period.
