Professor Ugochukwu Anyaehie Appointed Substantive Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University
Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie has been officially appointed as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, for a single term of five years, effective immediately.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Barrister Monsuru Olugbenga Kukoyi, signed the appointment letter on 16 November 2025, confirming Professor Anyaehie’s new role following a rigorous selection process led by the university’s Governing Council.
How the Appointment Was Decided
The appointment followed an interactive session with the joint Council and Senate Selection Board, held on 15 November 2025 at Stratton Hotel, Abuja. Candidates were evaluated on their academic achievements, leadership track record, and vision for the university.
Following the session, the Selection Board recommended Professor Anyaehie to the Governing Council, which approved the appointment. The office is designated for a single, non-renewable five-year term.
Academic Journey and Research Excellence
Born on 16 November 1971 in Nkwere, Imo State, Professor Anyaehie is a renowned professor of Physiology and Clinical Measurements. He ascended to full professorship in October 2013 and has contributed extensively to health sciences education and research.
Professor Anyaehie has authored over 93 research papers in reputable and high-impact journals, advancing knowledge in physiology and supporting the training of medical and health science students nationwide.

Throughout his career, Professor Anyaehie has held numerous key positions in academia:

Earlier, he also served as Manager and Area Coordinator with the National Health Insurance Scheme (Dec 2001 – Jun 2003).

Transition from Acting Vice-Chancellor
He succeeds Professor (Dame) Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, who served as Acting Vice-Chancellor from 18 November 2025. This appointment marks a formal transition from acting leadership to a confirmed substantive Vice-Chancellor, setting the stage for a new era of academic growth and institutional development at UNIZIK.
