NUC Approves Civil, Mechanical Engineering Programmes for FUWUKARI from 2025/2026
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval to the Federal University Wukari (FUWUKARI) in Taraba State to commence two new full-time undergraduate engineering programmes starting from the 2025/2026 academic session.
The approval allows the university to admit students into Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, marking a major expansion of FUWUKARI’s academic offerings in science and technology.
Approval Follows Successful Resource Assessment
According to the Commission, the decision followed a successful resource assessment visit carried out by a panel of NUC experts to FUWUKARI.
NUC explained that the outcome of the assessment—covering staffing, infrastructure, and learning facilities—formed the basis for approving the programmes.
Programmes Approved by NUC
The Commission approved the following undergraduate degree programmes:
- Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) Civil Engineering
- Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) Mechanical Engineering
Both programmes are approved strictly for full-time study.
Campus Location and Take-Off Session
NUC confirmed that the programmes will be run at FUWUKARI’s Main Campus and will take effect from the 2025/2026 academic session.
This means the university is legally permitted to admit students into the programmes beginning with the next academic cycle.
Full-Time Mode Only — No Part-Time Approval Yet
The Commission clearly stated that its approval covers only the full-time mode of study.
FUWUKARI was cautioned that any plan to introduce part-time options for the engineering programmes would require separate approval from NUC before implementation.
Programme Titles Must Remain Unchanged
NUC also directed the university to retain the approved programme titles and nomenclature as issued.
The Commission warned that any change to the programme names must receive express authorisation from NUC, in line with regulatory standards.
Official Letter and Reference
The approval was conveyed in an official letter signed by Abubakar M. Girei, Acting Director of Academic Planning, on behalf of the NUC Executive Secretary.
- Reference Number: NUC/AP/F31/VOL.I/79
- Recipient: The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University Wukari
Staffing and Facilities Requirement
NUC further urged FUWUKARI to ensure the continuous provision of adequate human and material resources to support the effective delivery and sustainability of the newly approved engineering programmes.
Why This Matters
The approval positions FUWUKARI to contribute more significantly to engineering education and manpower development in Nigeria, particularly in infrastructure and industrial sectors.
For prospective students, the development opens new opportunities to study accredited engineering programmes at a federal university.
