NECO 2025 SSCE External Results Out: Key Stats and How to Check Your Score

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results, with 71.63% of candidates achieving five credits or more, including English and Mathematics. The announcement was made on Wednesday by NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim-Wushishi, at the council’s headquarters in Minna.

Exam Timeline and Result Release

The 2025 SSCE External examination was conducted from 26 November to 13 December 2025, with marking completed between 5 January and 21 January 2026. NECO released the results 52 days after the final paper.

Candidates’ Registration and Attendance

A total of 96,979 candidates registered for the exam, including:

  • 51,823 males (53.43%)
  • 45,156 females (46.57%)

Of these, 95,160 candidates sat for the exam:

  • 50,785 males (53.36%)
  • 44,375 females (46.63%)

Performance in English and Mathematics

  • English Language: 93,425 candidates sat; 73,167 (78.32%) earned credit and above.
  • Mathematics: 93,330 candidates sat; 85,256 (91.35%) earned credit and above.

Five-Credit Results Breakdown

NECO highlighted two key outcomes:

  • 68,166 candidates (71.63%) scored five credits including English and Maths.
  • 82,082 candidates (86.26%) scored five credits or more without the English-and-Maths requirement.

Purpose of the SSCE External Exam

Prof. Ibrahim-Wushishi explained that the SSCE External exam provides candidates another opportunity for university and tertiary school admissions, both in Nigeria and abroad. The exam covered 16 subjects and the result release marks a milestone in NECO’s commitment to credible assessments.

Malpractice Cases and Sanctions

NECO reported 9,016 candidates involved in examination offences, a 31.7% increase from 6,160 cases in 2024. Measures taken include:

  • Five supervisors recommended for blacklisting (two from FCT, one each from Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo).
  • Four exam centres recommended for derecognition (two in Niger, one each in Yobe and Kano).

Candidates can access results online via the  NECO result checking portal

  1. Visit the NECO result checking website.
  2. Select Exam Year: 2025.
  3. Select Exam Type: SSCE EXTERNAL (NOV/DEC).
  4. Enter your Token Number and Registration Number.
  5. Click “Check Result” to view your score.
