Minister of Education Appoints Professor Onyeka Chijioke as Acting Vice-Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku University

New leadership set to steer Alvan Ikoku University for the next six months.

Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Honourable Minister of Education, has officially approved the appointment of Professor Onyeka Aloysius Chijioke as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri. The appointment takes effect from February 10, 2025, and will last for a period of six months.

What to Expect from the New Acting Vice-Chancellor

Professor Chijioke, an experienced academic leader, steps into this critical role at a pivotal time for the university. His responsibilities will include overseeing the day-to-day affairs of the university during this transitional period, ensuring that academic and administrative functions continue smoothly.

A key task will be leading the process of selecting a permanent Vice-Chancellor. However, it’s important to note that Professor Chijioke will not be eligible to apply for the permanent role once it is advertised.

Professor Chijioke’s Track Record

Before this appointment, Professor Chijioke served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University (KOMU) in Ideato, Imo State. His extensive experience in university administration and leadership makes him well-suited to guide Alvan Ikoku University through this transitional phase.

In making the announcement, the Minister of Education expressed confidence in a seamless leadership transition, stressing that the university’s mission will continue to thrive under the acting leadership of Professor Chijioke.
