MDCN Warns Nigerians Against Fake Scholarship Claims Circulating Online
The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has issued a public warning about a fraudulent scholarship scheme currently circulating across social media and other online platforms.
According to the Council, the Registrar of MDCN received multiple reports of individuals impersonating MDCN officials and offering false scholarship opportunities in the Council’s name. These scammers have been deceiving unsuspecting students and members of the public with fabricated claims linked to MDCN.
No MDCN Scholarship Exists, Council Clarifies
In a strongly worded statement, MDCN emphasized that no such scholarship programme exists under its administration.
The Council advised everyone to disregard any list of supposed beneficiaries or communications claiming association with such a scheme.
“This activity is fraudulent and criminal,” the Council warned, confirming that the matter has been reported to law enforcement for further investigation.
Official Payment and Communication Channels
To prevent future scams, MDCN reminded students, professionals, and the general public that all official payments related to the Council’s services must be made only through the REMITA platform.
MDCN does not collect payments through personal or private accounts, and any such request should be treated as suspicious.
All legitimate updates, announcements, and publications are released solely on the verified MDCN website.
Any information found elsewhere should be considered unauthorised and false, the statement added.
Public Vigilance and Reporting
The Council urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and cautious when engaging with online information about scholarships or MDCN-related programmes.
Anyone who suspects fraudulent activity is encouraged to report directly to the MDCN via its official communication channels.
MDCN reaffirmed its commitment to upholding professional standards and protecting public trust by ensuring transparency in all its operations.
Students, practitioners, and stakeholders are therefore advised to rely only on verified updates from MDCN’s official sources.
