The approval, conveyed through an official letter dated October 23, 2025, and signed by Alhaji Abubakar M. Girei, the Acting Director of Academic Planning on behalf of the NUC Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, marks a significant stride in OAUSTECH’s ongoing academic expansion and institutional growth.

Newly Approved Programmes

The NUC’s approval covers both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes designed to align with current global trends and national manpower needs.

Undergraduate Programmes:

  • B.Sc. Cyber Security
  • B.Sc. Marine Science
  • B.Sc. Meteorology

Postgraduate Programmes:

  • Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), M.Eng, and PhD in Civil Engineering
  • Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), M.Eng, and PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering

According to the NUC, these programmes are aimed at strengthening OAUSTECH’s academic offerings, improving research output, and broadening opportunities for students to acquire advanced scientific and engineering skills.

“A Major Step Forward,” Says OAUSTECH Vice-Chancellor

Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor of OAUSTECH, Professor Temi Ologunorisa, described the approval as “a major step forward in the university’s mission to nurture future-ready graduates.”

He emphasized that the new programmes will equip students with practical and research-oriented skills that meet both national and global industry standards.

“This achievement reflects OAUSTECH’s commitment to excellence in science and technology education. It will also enhance our competitiveness among Nigerian universities,” Professor Ologunorisa stated.

He further expressed gratitude to the NUC for the confidence reposed in the university and encouraged staff and students to support the smooth implementation of the new programmes.

Management Commends University Leadership

Also commenting, the Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance, Dr. Cecilia Oluwamodupe, commended the efforts of the university’s leadership and Governing Council, chaired by Professor Akinbo Adesomoju, for their instrumental role in securing the NUC’s approval.

She noted that the new programmes would not only boost OAUSTECH’s academic reputation but also attract more students, research collaborations, and partnerships.

Expanding Opportunities for Students and Communities

The introduction of Marine Science is particularly significant for the Okitipupa coastal region, as it offers new academic and career opportunities related to maritime studies, environmental management, and ocean research. Students will also gain access to fieldwork experiences and collaborative projects that benefit local communities.

OAUSTECH has announced that admissions into the new undergraduate programmes will commence once they are listed on the JAMB Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).

Commitment to Academic Excellence

With this latest NUC approval, OAUSTECH continues to strengthen its position as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing science and technology universities. The institution remains steadfast in its mission to produce innovative graduates who can contribute meaningfully to national and global development.

“Our goal is to keep raising the bar of academic excellence,” the Vice-Chancellor reiterated.
