British Canadian University Names Prof. Adekojo Waheed as New Vice-Chancellor
The British Canadian University (BCU) has officially announced the appointment of Professor Adekojo Waheed as its new Vice-Chancellor, following approval by the university’s Governing Board. His tenure is set for five years, signaling a new chapter of academic advancement for the institution.
Professor Waheed, a renowned scholar and seasoned administrator, joins BCU with an impressive record of academic leadership and innovation. Before his appointment, he served as Professor of Thermofluids and Fluid Mechanics at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), where he also held the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).
Academic and Professional Background
Professor Waheed’s academic journey reflects a blend of excellence and global exposure. He earned his Doctor of Engineering Science (Dr. Eng. Sc.) in Mechanical Engineering from the prestigious Aachen University of Technology (RWTH) in Germany. Prior to that, he obtained both his Master’s (M.Eng.) and Bachelor’s (B.Eng. Hons) degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ilorin, graduating with Second Class Honours (Upper Division).
His brilliance has been recognized through several awards and fellowships. Notably, he received the Commonwealth Fellowship at the University of Bath, United Kingdom, and the DAAD Scholarship for his doctoral studies in Germany. During his undergraduate years, he was honoured as the Best Graduating Student and University Scholar in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ilorin.

In congratulating the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babatunde Kehinde, Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, described the appointment as “well-deserved,” noting that Professor Waheed’s academic and administrative pedigree would be instrumental in driving BCU’s growth.
Professor Waheed is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) and the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FNIMechE). He is also a registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
