Federal University Lokoja Set to Shine at Its 9th Convocation Ceremony — A Week of Celebration, Culture, and Academic Excellence

Every October, Federal University Lokoja (FULOKOJA) bursts into colour, tradition, and pride. This year will be no different as the university prepares for its 9th Convocation Ceremony, set to take place from Monday, October 13 to Sunday, October 19, 2025.

The atmosphere on campus already buzzes with excitement — students are ironing their gowns, staff are putting final touches on logistics, and the Lokoja community is brimming with pride as one of Nigeria’s young but fast-growing federal universities celebrates yet another milestone.


A Celebration of Scholarship, Culture, and Community

According to the university’s official programme, the week-long ceremony will showcase a fine blend of intellectual, cultural, and spiritual events, honouring the institution’s growth and commitment to excellence.

Day 1: Monday, October 13, 2025 — Kick-off and Colloquium

  • Press Briefing by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, at the Senate Chamber, Felele10:00 a.m.
  • Colloquium in Honour of Prof. Olu Obafemi at the Multipurpose Hall, Felele12:00 p.m.

Day 2: Tuesday, October 14, 2025 — Founders’ Day Celebration

  • Founders’ Day Public Lecture titled “Empowering the Future Generation: The Founders’ Vision and Legacy” by Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, CFR, former Speaker of the House of Representatives — Multipurpose Hall, Felele, 10:00 a.m.
  • Distinguished Awards to Alumni and OthersMultipurpose Hall, 2:00 p.m.

Day 3: Wednesday, October 15, 2025 — Innovation and Art

Day 4: Thursday, October 16, 2025 — The Convocation Lecture

The highlight of the day will be the Convocation Lecture themed “The Intersection of Law, Digital Technology, and Human Resourcefulness in Transforming University Education in Nigeria”.

  • Lecturer: Prince Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, SAN, Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice
  • Venue: Multipurpose Hall, Felele — 2:00 p.m.
    The evening will conclude with a Convocation Play at Adankolo6:00 p.m.

Day 5: Friday, October 17, 2025 — Reflections and Celebration

  • Jumma’at PrayerUniversity Mosque, Felele, 1:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • Chancellor’s NightKay-Galaxy Events Centre, 5:00 p.m.

Day 6: Saturday, October 18, 2025 — The Grand Convocation Ceremony

The main event will take place at the Convocation Arena, Felele, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Activities include:

  • Award of First Degrees for the Faculties of Arts, Education, Environmental Sciences, Management Sciences, Science, and Social Sciences.
  • Presentation of Endowments and Prizes.
  • Award of Honorary Doctorate and Higher Degrees.

Day 7: Sunday, October 19, 2025 — Thanksgiving and Closing

The week wraps up with an Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service at the COHS Auditorium, Adankolo Campus, starting at 10:00 a.m.
