UNIBEN Opens Admission for Geosciences & Petroleum Engineering Postgraduate Programmes 2025
The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has officially announced admission openings for its Geosciences and Petroleum Engineering postgraduate programmes under the NNPC/Renaissance Joint Venture Centre of Excellence.
This centre, established in 2012, was created to bridge the gap between classroom theory and industry practice. Over the years, it has produced highly skilled graduates who are not only academically sound but also industry-ready—many of whom now work with top companies like Seplat Energy, NNPC Limited, and Renaissance Africa Energy, while others have gone on to pursue doctoral studies abroad.
Available Programmes at UNIBEN Centre of Excellence
Master’s (M.Sc.) Programmes
These are designed for fresh graduates and working professionals looking to build careers in the oil, gas, and energy industries.
Courses Offered:
- M.Sc. Integrated Petroleum Exploration and Evaluation Studies (Geology)
- M.Sc. Integrated Petroleum Exploration and Evaluation Studies (Geophysics)
- M.Sc. Integrated Petroleum Engineering and Production Studies
Who Can Apply:
- Graduates with at least Second Class Upper in Geology, Geophysics, or Petroleum Engineering
- Graduates from Physical Sciences or Engineering with a minimum of Second Class Upper
- Completion of NYSC is mandatory
Duration:
- 18 months full-time (12 months classroom/fieldwork + 6 months industry internship)
Ph.D. Programmes
For candidates aiming for advanced research and professional leadership, UNIBEN is also accepting applications into its doctoral programmes.
Courses Offered:
- Ph.D. in Earth Sciences (Petroleum Geology or Geophysics)
- Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering (Well, Reservoir, Gas, or Production Technology)
- Ph.D. in Energy Studies
Who Can Apply:
- M.Sc. holders in relevant fields with at least 65% average
- Or candidates with 60% average plus five years of industry experience
- Applicants must submit a 500-word Statement of Intent detailing their research interest
Duration:
- Minimum of 3 years full-time study

- Pay an application fee of ₦22,000 plus portal charges via Interswitch (using any bank card).
- Request your transcripts from your previous institution to be sent directly to:

- Corporate bodies may nominate staff by endorsing application forms.
- Deadline for submission: 14th November 2025.
