The Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has officially announced that the position of Vice-Chancellor will become vacant on 11 February 2026. The Governing Council has opened applications, calling on qualified academics to step forward for one of the most prestigious leadership roles in Nigeria’s higher education sector.

Since its establishment in 2011, FULafia has grown into a vibrant academic hub with 16 faculties, 3 colleges, 14 centres, 18 directorates, and a School of Basic and Remedial Studies. The university currently runs 82 undergraduate programmes alongside several postgraduate and online courses, cementing its place as one of Nigeria’s fastest-rising federal institutions.


The Role of the Vice-Chancellor

The Vice-Chancellor serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the university. Responsibilities include:

  • Managing resources and maintaining discipline
  • Ensuring staff and student welfare
  • Attracting funding and research grants
  • Building partnerships with government, local, and international bodies

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a PhD or equivalent from a recognised university
  • Academic career must progress from Assistant Lecturer or Lecturer II to full Professor
  • At least 7 years of experience as a Professor by February 2026
  • Must have delivered an inaugural lecture
  • A consistent academic discipline from Bachelor’s to Doctorate
  • Proven ability in securing local or international research grants
  • A 1,000-word vision statement outlining the next five years for the university
  • Demonstrated integrity in financial and administrative matters
  • Ability to unite staff, students, and stakeholders
  • ICT proficiency and commitment to technology-driven education
  • Must be of sound physical and mental health
  • Applicants must be below 65 years of age at the start of the appointment

Tenure and Terms of Service

The Vice-Chancellor will serve a single five-year term under the same conditions as other federal university Vice-Chancellors in Nigeria.
