The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has officially announced a high-level vacancy that’s set to reshape its financial leadership: the position of Bursar will be open from February 14, 2026. The Bursar Role at a Glance
As the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the university, the Bursar reports directly to the Vice-Chancellor and oversees all financial operations. The successful candidate will lead budget planning, manage accounts and payroll, supervise student billing, and ensure regulatory compliance across financial activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and monitor the university’s annual budget
- Maintain accurate accounts, receipts, and financial records
- Manage tuition collection and payment plans
- Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
- Ensure timely and correct staff payroll processing
- Manage insurance coverage for university assets and personnel
- Build strong partnerships with banks, vendors, and government agencies
- Contribute to strategic planning and long-term financial projections
- Lead and grow the finance team
- Promote transparency and compliance in all financial dealings
- Collaborate with various departments to ensure sound financial practices
- Handle additional duties as assigned by the Vice-Chancellor
Who Can Apply?
To qualify for the role, applicants must meet strict academic and professional criteria:
Required Qualifications:
- A good degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, or Business
- Membership of a recognized professional body like ICAN, ANAN, ACCA, etc.
- Minimum 18 years of relevant post-qualification experience
- At least 5 years in a senior finance role at a university or similar institution
- Must currently serve as a Deputy Bursar or higher
- Excellent budgeting, reporting, and resource planning skills
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and modern accounting software
- Deep knowledge of financial regulations and government funding policies
- Strong analytical and leadership skills
- Applicant must not be older than 59 years by February 14, 2026
Preferred Qualifications:
- Higher degrees or professional development training
- Proven track record of securing grants or external funding
Job Terms & Duration
The Bursar will be appointed for a single term of five years. Based on satisfactory performance, a one-year extension may be granted—no further extensions beyond this. Salary and benefits will align with federal university regulations.
