University of Abuja Opens Applications for Professional Postgraduate Programmes in Creative Writing

The University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) is now accepting applications for its prestigious professional postgraduate programmes in Creative Writing for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The Centre for Creative Writing, established in March 2023, is dedicated to nurturing talented writers from across Nigeria and Africa. This centre offers a unique opportunity for individuals who are passionate about honing their writing skills and pursuing careers in creative writing and related fields.

UNIABUJA is offering the following postgraduate programmes in Creative Writing:
- Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Creative Writing
- Master’s Degree (MA) in Creative Writing
- Doctorate (PhD) in Creative Writing

Admission Requirements
To apply for the postgraduate programmes, candidates must meet the following criteria:
PGD and MA Programmes:
- A Bachelor’s degree (BA or BSc) with a minimum 3.0 GPA from a recognised university in English, Literature, Theatre Arts, Linguistics, Journalism, Mass Communication, History, Art History, Religious Studies, Philosophy, or Education.
- Social science graduates or those with a Higher National Diploma (HND) may also apply if they provide a writing portfolio and agree to complete remedial coursework.
PhD Programme:
- A Master’s degree (MA or MFA) in Creative Writing from a recognised institution with at least a 3.0 GPA and 60% in research work.
- A postgraduate degree in a related field may be accepted, though additional coursework may be required for those with a PGD.
Programme Duration
- PGD: 8 months
- MA: 2 years
- PhD: 3–4 years
