Federal University Dutse Ends Instalment Payment for Registration Fees, Citing New Financial Assistance System
The Federal University Dutse (FUD) Governing Council has made a significant change to its payment policy, announcing the end of the instalment plan for student registration fees. This decision was made during the 4th Governing Council’s 3rd Regular Meeting and marks a shift towards streamlining the university’s payment processes.
No More Split Payments: What You Need to Know
Previously, FUD allowed students to pay their registration fees in two instalments: 60% at one time and the remaining 40% at a later date. However, following the introduction of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund), the Governing Council has decided to end this payment structure. This change is aimed at simplifying the payment process and reducing the burden on parents and students.
Why the Change?
The university cited issues with its online portal, which struggled to accommodate the split-payment system. According to a memo from the university’s Registrar, Alhaji Abubakar Mijinyawa, the instalment system led to technical difficulties that affected the registration process. In response, FUD has opted for a more straightforward approach to ensure smoother transactions for students.
Financial Relief for Students: Benevolent Fund and NELFund Assistance
To further support students, the university has emphasized the availability of the Benevolent Fund, which will assist those who require financial help. Additionally, the introduction of the NELFund offers a new way for students to access educational loans, easing financial strain.
Refunds for Over 1,500 Students
In light of the changes, approximately 1,503 students who had already paid their registration fees before receiving their NELFund loans have been refunded. The university’s Bursar, Malam Hassan Balarabe, confirmed that 1,920 students successfully applied for loans through NELFund. Refunds were processed swiftly as soon as the funds were disbursed to the university.
