Planning your 2026 UTME examination? Understanding 2026 UTME cut-off marks is crucial for your admission success. Whether you’re aiming for the University of Ibadan or a nursing college, knowing the exact score requirements helps you prepare strategically and choose courses that match your ability. In this guide, we’ll break down the cut-off marks for major institutions and what you need to know to secure admission.
2026 UTME Cut-Off Marks for Major Nigerian Institutions
Different universities and colleges set varying cut-off marks based on course competitiveness and available spaces. The University of Ibadan requires candidates to score 200 and above in the 2026 UTME examination, with competitive courses potentially demanding significantly higher scores. This means you’ll need to excel in the four UTME subjects to meet UI’s stringent requirements.
In addition, Ogun State College of Nursing Sciences sets a minimum JAMB score of 180 for 2026 admission. This is lower than UI but still competitive, and applicants must be at least 16 years old by August 31, 2026. Healthcare programmes across Nigeria generally maintain firm cut-off marks due to professional regulatory requirements.
Why Cut-Off Marks Matter for Your UTME Strategy
Cut-off marks determine your eligibility for admission at each institution. However, scoring above the cut-off doesn’t guarantee admission—you’re ranked competitively with other applicants. Therefore, knowing these requirements helps you:
- Set realistic UTME targets based on your chosen institution
- Prepare adequately with focused study plans
- Choose courses that align with your academic strength
- Avoid wasting time on applications to institutions with unrealistic cut-offs for you

Frequently Asked Questions About 2026 UTME Cut-Off Marks
What’s the difference between JAMB cut-off and post-UTME requirements?
The JAMB cut-off mark is your minimum UTME score needed to gain admission consideration. Post-UTME is an additional examination some universities conduct to further screen candidates. For example, UI requires 200+ in UTME but may have a separate post-UTME test. Always check each institution’s requirements.
Can I get admitted if I score exactly the cut-off mark?
Scoring exactly the cut-off mark makes you eligible for admission but doesn’t guarantee it. Universities rank applicants by score, and admission depends on available spaces and competition. Scoring above the cut-off significantly improves your chances, especially for competitive courses.
Do all nursing colleges require the same cut-off mark?
No. While Ogun State College of Nursing Sciences requires 180, other nursing institutions may have different cut-off marks ranging from 160–200. Always verify the specific requirements of your chosen institution on the official JAMB website or the college’s admissions office.
