Nigerian students abroad are about to get exciting news: JAMB UTME in Canada 2027 is becoming a reality. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is expanding access to Nigeria’s tertiary education system internationally, with plans to establish a UTME examination centre in Ottawa, Canada, starting 2027. This is a major milestone for diaspora students seeking admission into Nigerian universities. Additionally, recent updates on admission status checks and university resumption dates are reshaping the 2026/2027 academic calendar for all candidates.
JAMB Goes Global: UTME Examination Centre in Ottawa, Canada
In a historic move to internationalise Nigeria’s education, JAMB is establishing a UTME examination centre in Ottawa, Canada, from 2027. Prof. Segun Aina, the Registrar of JAMB, discussed this groundbreaking initiative during a visit to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa, as announced on the board’s official social media channels.
This development is significant for Nigerian students living in Canada and other parts of North America. Rather than returning to Nigeria to sit the UTME examination, candidates can now register and write their exams locally. Furthermore, this initiative aligns with JAMB’s commitment to making university admission more accessible and reducing barriers for overseas candidates seeking entry into Nigerian institutions.
The establishment of exam centres in diaspora communities reflects the growing recognition that many qualified Nigerian students abroad deserve equal access to Nigerian tertiary education opportunities.

University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) Resumption Date Moved to 18 October 2026
If you’re planning to resume at UNIABUJA for the 2026/2027 academic session, mark your calendars: the new resumption date is Sunday, 18 October 2026—not the previously announced 4 October.
According to the University of Abuja Senate announcement signed by Registrar Mal. Alkasim Musa Umar, this delay allows the institution to release admission offers following the recent NECO results. This extra two weeks gives the university time to process applications fairly and ensure admitted students are adequately prepared.
Therefore, both returning and newly admitted students should adjust their accommodation, travel, and family plans accordingly. UNIABUJA admission status will help you track if your offer has been released.
