WAEC Withholds Ondo Students’ Results Due to Government Debt

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has withheld the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results of students in Ondo State’s public secondary schools due to the state government’s unpaid debts, according to Peoples Gazette. This issue came to light when students across the state’s 18 local government areas found they could not access their results on the WAEC website. One student shared her frustration, saying she repeatedly received a message indicating that her results were withheld due to the state’s indebtedness.
Parents are now anxiously awaiting a resolution as their children prepare for further education. A teacher from one of the affected schools explained that the state government is usually responsible for paying exam fees, but the current administration has not fulfilled this obligation.

The Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Olaolu Akindolire, acknowledged the situation, attributing it to logistical challenges. He assured that the issue would be resolved soon, noting that the government had already paid five hundred and fifty million Naira for 26,088 students’ WASSCE fees and approved an additional one hundred and fifty-eight million Naira to cover the remaining costs.
