Southern Delta University Moves 2026 Convocation to Feb. 28 to Support Visitor’s Participation

The management of Southern Delta University (SDU), Ozoro, formerly known as Delta State University of Science and Technology, has officially rescheduled its 2026 convocation ceremony, shifting the flagship event by one day to enhance high-level participation.

Originally slated for Friday, February 27, 2026, the university’s Convocation, Awards of Prizes and Commissioning of Projects will now take place on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

Despite the adjustment, the institution confirmed that all other activities and arrangements remain unchanged, with the full convocation programme still running from February 22 to March 1, 2026.

Why SDU Changed the Convocation Date

According to university management, the date was moved to improve coordination and enable fuller participation of the institution’s Visitor, Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State.

Officials added that the shift is strategic and administrative, aimed at ensuring the convocation proceeds with maximum institutional and ceremonial representation. The university also expressed regret for any inconvenience the change may cause and appealed for stakeholders’ understanding and cooperation.


Revised SDU 2026 Convocation Programme of Activities

The university released an updated schedule reflecting the new convocation date:

Day 1 — Sunday, February 22, 2026
Church Service at Annunciation Catholic Church
Time: 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

Day 2 — Monday, February 23, 2026
Novelty Match at the SDU Stadium
Time: 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Day 3 — Tuesday, February 24, 2026
Vice-Chancellor’s Press Conference
Time: 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Day 4 — Wednesday, February 25, 2026
Convocation Lecture
Time: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Day 5 — Thursday, February 26, 2026
Science, Technology and Innovation Exhibition
Time: 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Day 6 — Saturday, February 28, 2026
Convocation, Awards of Prizes and Commissioning of Projects
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Day 7 — Sunday, March 1, 2026
Thanksgiving Service at Cathedral Church of St. Paul

What This Means for Students and Guests

For graduating students, alumni, and invited guests, the university emphasized that only the main convocation ceremony date has changed. All preparatory and ceremonial events will proceed as originally planned.

The adjustment underscores SDU’s effort to host a well-coordinated ceremony that reflects the institution’s growing stature and ensures strong engagement from government leadership and academic stakeholders.

University officials encouraged attendees to update their travel and event plans accordingly as preparations continue for what is expected to be a landmark 2026 convocation ceremony.
