FUTMINNA Portal Closed After Deadline: SUG Explains What Happened and When Reopening May Come

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) has broken its silence on the sudden closure of the university portal, assuring students that talks are ongoing to reopen it soon.

The portal—used for school fees payment and other academic processes—was shut after an earlier deadline set by the university management expired, the Union said in an official statement dated January 18, 2026.

Why the FUTMINNA Portal Was Closed

According to the SUG, the portal closure followed the expiration of a management-approved deadline. Once the deadline ended, access to the portal was automatically restricted.

No additional reasons were given in the release.

The shutdown sparked concern among students who still needed the portal to complete payments and other school-related activities.

What the SUG Said

In a press release signed by the Office of the Public Relations Officer, the Union acknowledged the anxiety among students and confirmed that the issue is tied strictly to the expired deadline.

The SUG emphasized that it understands how important the portal is to students’ academic and financial processes.

What the SUG Is Doing Now

The Students’ Union says it is actively engaging the appropriate university authorities to resolve the matter.

“Discussions are ongoing to ensure the portal is reopened as soon as possible,” the Union stated.

Once reopened, students will be able to:

  • Pay outstanding school fees
  • Complete other pending academic processes

The SUG also promised to share timely updates through official channels.

What Students Should Do

While waiting for the portal to reopen, the Union advised students to:

  • Remain calm and avoid panic
  • Wait for official announcements
  • Ignore rumours and unofficial updates, especially those circulating on social media

The SUG warned that misinformation from unverified sources could worsen confusion.

Message to Students

The Union thanked students for their patience and cooperation, assuring them that their concerns are being addressed and that updates will be communicated promptly.
