FUKASHERE Secures NUC Approval for Three New Full-Time Health Programmes Starting 2025/2026

The Federal University Kashere (FUKASHERE) has received a major academic boost as the National Universities Commission (NUC) has officially approved the launch of three new full-time programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The approval follows a successful resource verification exercise conducted by NUC panels, who assessed the university’s staffing capacity, lecture facilities, laboratories, and other essential academic resources. According to the Commission, FUKASHERE met all the baseline standards required at this preliminary stage, clearing the path for the programmes to commence.

Three New Programmes Approved by NUC

In a letter dated December 8, 2025, the NUC confirmed that the following programmes are now accredited to begin:

  • B.D.S. Dental Surgery
  • B.N.Sc. Nursing Science
  • B.O.T. Occupational Therapy

The Commission emphasized that the approval covers full-time mode only, and any attempt to introduce part-time options must undergo a fresh round of scrutiny and gain separate authorization. Additionally, FUKASHERE is required to maintain the exact programme titles as approved, with any renaming subject to formal approval from the NUC.

Significance of the Approval for FUKASHERE

This development marks a strategic expansion of the university’s health sciences portfolio—an area in high demand across Nigeria, especially in the north-east region. With these new programmes, students in the region now have broader access to specialized medical and allied health education without leaving their home state.

The NUC also encouraged the university to continue strengthening its academic workforce, upgrading instructional facilities, and investing in modern learning tools to ensure sustainable growth and long-term programme viability.
