After being accepted as King over Judah, Rehoboam went to Shechem to be accepted as King over the north because there was no united Kingdom. The northern delegation led by Jeroboam the son of Nebat told Rehoboam that his father made their yoke heavy and that if he wanted to be their king then he should lighten the hard service of Solomon which consisted the high taxation and forced unpaid labour.
