Elijah wanted to show Ahab that there is only one true God. He said "Let us go up the mountain and see who is the true God". They build two altars, one to Baal, the idol, one to the true God. Elijah said, shall put offerings on both altars. The true God will send fire from heaven to burn the offerings. Ahab agreed and told the priests of Baal to get ready. The priests of Baal prayed and shouted but nothing happened. Elijah poured water over his offerings and prayed, O Lord God, answer me, show the people that you are the only true God. Right away, fire came down and burnt the sacrifice and the altar. 1 Kings 18:1-40
