The people of Nineveh after hearing Jonah's message believed God, proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least as a demonstration of their repentance. Following the people's repentance from their sins, God changed His mind, which was earlier made up to punish them. Their instant repentance restored then to an acceptable status before God. They were therefore forgiven by God. Jonah4:l-15
