Desert plants run the risk of drastic dehydration. They are therefore structurally adapted to conserving water by having their stomata sunk down into pits which have accumulation of humid air. Other desert plants fold or roll up their leaves e.g. grasses. Others have succulent stems consisting of large parenchymatous cells within swollen stems for storing water and reduced number of stomata. Guttation is the loss of water in a liquid from through the margins of leaves of plants especially grasses these grasses have specialized ducts called hydathodes at the tips of the veins of the leaves. it occurs because the plant contains more water than can be removed through evaporation.
