The sugarcane stem is cut into pieces and each piece grows into new sugar cane plant. Layering is the pegging of a healthy tree branch to the soil to enable it develop roots easily at the nodes. When sufficient roots are developed, the branch is cut off and planted, in grafting, a scion (a plant producing good quality fruits) is made to grow on a stock (a plant having well established root system).
