Diaphragm is a thin membrane that separates the thorax from the abdomen. It has pillar muscle which flattens it from its dome - shaped position during inspiration. The intercostal muscle is found between the ribs at the sides of the body. The pleural cavity is a cavity found between the outer and inner pleura membranes. These membranes prevent the ribs from touching the lungs.
