WAEC Releases Results for 2024 WASSCE for Private Candidates – A Step Towards Improved Performance

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates. This significant announcement was made on Sunday by the Head of the National Office, Dr. Dangut Amos, and confirmed by the Council’s Head of Public Affairs, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina.

Key Highlights of the 2024 WAEC Results:

1. Breakdown of Candidate Performance

A total of 65,023 candidates participated in the 2024 WASSCE for Private Candidates. Of these, 34,878 candidates (53.64%) achieved credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

This marks a notable improvement in performance from previous years:

  • 2023: 44.29% pass rate
  • 2022: 42.16% pass rate

Compared to last year, the 2024 pass rate has risen by 9.35%, signaling better performance across the board.

2. Gender Performance Comparison

In terms of gender, female candidates outperformed their male counterparts:

  • 17,992 female candidates (51.58%) earned credits in five subjects.
  • 16,886 male candidates (48.41%) achieved the same feat.

The trend suggests that female students are excelling at a higher rate in the 2024 examination.

3. Pending Results and Processing Issues

Out of the total number of candidates, 62,364 candidates (95.90%) have had their results fully processed. However, 2,669 candidates (4.1%) still have pending results due to errors in their submission data. These candidates are advised to follow up for further clarification.

4. Withheld Results Due to Malpractice

WAEC has withheld the results of 2,577 candidates (3.98%) due to suspected malpractice. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether these results will be canceled or released. WAEC assures that fairness will guide all decisions in these cases.

5. Support for Special Needs Candidates

WAEC has also shown commitment to inclusivity by fully processing the results of 157 candidates with special needs. This includes:

  • 25 visually impaired candidates
  • 13 hearing impaired candidates
  • 15 albino candidates

These students were given all necessary support to ensure their exams were handled fairly.
