University of Ilorin Senate Appoints Three Distinguished Retirees as Emeritus Professors

In a significant move, the Senate of the University of Ilorin has officially appointed three retirees as Emeritus Professors, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to education and research. The decision was made during the university’s 304th meeting and underscores their remarkable legacies in the academic world.

Meet the Newly Appointed Emeritus Professors:

  1. Prof. Is’haq Oloyede
    Prof. Oloyede, who retired from the University of Ilorin in October 2024, is a prominent figure in Nigerian education. He served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and is currently the Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). His leadership in academic administration and policy has had a lasting impact on higher education in Nigeria.
  2. Prof. Olu Obafemi
    A distinguished scholar in English and Dramatic Literature, Prof. Obafemi retired from the University of Ilorin in 2020. His extensive work in literature has not only shaped academic discourse but has also enriched Nigeria’s cultural landscape, making him a key figure in the humanities.
  3. Prof. Musbau Akanji
    Prof. Akanji, a respected biochemist, retired from active service in 2021. He has had an illustrious career, serving as Vice-Chancellor at both Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, and the Federal University of Technology, Minna. His academic work in biochemistry and leadership in academia continue to inspire the next generation of scholars.
