UNILAG Opens Applications for Prestigious Electric Power Engineering Professorial Chair
The University of Lagos (UNILAG), one of Nigeria’s leading universities, has officially opened applications for the Engr. Seke Somolu Professorial Chair in Electric Power Engineering within its Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
This distinguished chair aims to attract highly qualified academics who can advance research, teaching, and industry collaboration in the field of Electric Power Engineering.
Role Overview
The appointed professor will be responsible for:
- Teaching and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Electric Power Engineering.
- Conducting cutting-edge research and publishing findings in high-impact journals.
- Organizing public lectures and fostering collaborations between academia and industry.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must demonstrate exceptional academic and research excellence, including:
- A first degree in a relevant field and a Ph.D. in Electric Power Engineering.
- At least 10 years of post-Lecturer I teaching and research experience.
- Minimum three years as Associate Professor or six years as Senior Lecturer.
- Strong record of research publications, including at least three in IEEE Transactions.
- Participation in at least three IEEE international conferences.
- Proven ability to supervise Master’s and Ph.D. students.
- Academic leadership, ICT competence, and integrity.
Remuneration and Benefits
The position offers an enhanced salary (CONUASS 7 plus 20% mark-up) along with generous allowances for:
- Transport, research, journals, local travel, housing, conferences, and learned society subscriptions.
- Books and periodicals.
Tenure
The chair is initially a two-year appointment, extendable by one year at the discretion of the Board of Trustees.
