UNILAG Moves to Regulate Skit-Making and Filming Activities on Campus
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has released an official statement addressing the rising trend of unauthorized skit-making, vox pops, and other video productions taking place within its campus premises.
According to the institution’s management, several individuals and groups — including students and external content creators — have been using university hostels, lecture halls, and other facilities for filming without obtaining prior approval.
Maintaining Order and Protecting UNILAG’s Image
The university emphasized that while it encourages creativity and responsible expression, all filming and production activities must comply with laid-down procedures. These rules, according to UNILAG, are designed to safeguard the institution’s environment, uphold its reputation, and maintain safety and orderliness across campus.
In the official circular, UNILAG clarified that any person or organization wishing to carry out filming, interviews, or any other form of content production within the university must first seek formal approval.
Where to Apply for Filming Permission
All requests for permission should be directed to:
The Communication Unit, 7th Floor, Senate House, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka.
The management reiterated that compliance with these guidelines is not optional. It forms part of the university’s broader effort to balance creative freedom with academic integrity and ensure that all media activities align with the institution’s core values.
Call for Cooperation
UNILAG advised members of its community and the general public to strictly adhere to the new directive to preserve the sanctity of its academic environment and protect shared facilities.
By enforcing these regulations, the university hopes to maintain a healthy balance between innovation and decorum — ensuring that all content produced within its walls reflects the true spirit and integrity of UNILAG.
