UNICROSS Postpones 2025/2026 First Semester Exams to March 9, Announces Easter Break Schedule

The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has officially postponed its 2025/2026 first semester examinations, shifting the commencement date by two weeks to allow students complete critical academic and administrative processes.

The exams, previously scheduled to begin on Monday, February 23, 2026, will now commence on Monday, March 9, 2026, according to a notice issued to students, staff, and members of the university community.

The updated schedule also confirms a short Easter break during the examination period.

What Changed?

UNICROSS moved the first semester examination start date from:

  • Old Date: Monday, February 23, 2026
  • New Official Start Date: Monday, March 9, 2026

The new timetable is now binding on all faculties and departments.

Students are advised to take note of the revised examination calendar:

  • Exams Begin: Monday, March 9, 2026
  • Easter Break: Thursday, April 2 – Monday, April 6, 2026
  • Exams Resume: Tuesday, April 7, 2026
  • Exams End: Saturday, April 25, 2026

The examination period has been extended, meaning departments must adjust internal schedules to align with the updated calendar.

Easter Break During Exams

UNICROSS confirmed that examinations will temporarily pause for the Easter celebration.

  • Break Duration: April 2 to April 6, 2026
  • Resumption of Exams: Tuesday, April 7, 2026

After the break, all scheduled papers will continue as planned until the final date of April 25, 2026.

Why UNICROSS Rescheduled the Exams

The university explained that the postponement was approved to give students sufficient time to fulfill mandatory requirements tied to the examination period.

According to the notice, the extension will allow students to:

  • Complete all outstanding course registration processes
  • Enable newly admitted students to finalize documentation
  • Obtain their official University Identification Cards

Importantly, the university emphasized that possession of a valid student ID card is mandatory for entry into examination halls. Students without ID cards will not be permitted to sit for their papers.

What Students Should Do Now

With the new March 9 start date, students are strongly advised to:

  • Finalize all course registrations immediately
  • Clear pending documentation issues
  • Secure their official UNICROSS ID cards
  • Monitor departmental notices for updated exam timetables

Failure to meet these requirements could prevent access to examination halls.

The Bigger Picture

The adjustment reflects a broader effort by the university to streamline administrative processes and ensure that both returning and newly admitted students are fully compliant before sitting for examinations.

For many students, the additional time may serve as both an administrative grace period and an opportunity for deeper academic preparation.

As March 9 approaches, the message from UNICROSS is clear: Get registered, get documented, and get your ID card — or risk missing your exams.
