UNIABUJA Raises Alarm Over Fake Admission, Hostel, and Job Agents — Issues Strong Public Warning
The University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) has issued a strong public warning to Nigerians, urging candidates, parents, guardians, and job seekers to ignore anyone claiming they can “arrange” admission, hostel accommodation, or employment at the university in exchange for money or favours.
In an official notice, the university said a growing number of fraudsters are disguising themselves as “helpers” or “agents” and using fake documents, cloned websites, and social media pages to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
The university made it clear: all such claims are fake and dangerous.
How the fraudsters operate
According to UNIABUJA, these scammers use several tricks to appear genuine and convincing. These include:
- Sending fake admission letters to candidates
- Creating cloned websites that look like the real UNIABUJA portal
- Running fraudulent Facebook and X (Twitter) pages that imitate official accounts
- Making deceptive phone calls, text messages, and WhatsApp chats to pressure victims
Many of these platforms look professional, which makes it easy for people to fall for them before verifying the source.
UNIABUJA’s official position
The university stressed that admission, hostel allocation, and recruitment follow approved, transparent, and institutional procedures.
UNIABUJA said no staff member, agent, or third party is authorised to demand or collect money, gifts, or personal favours on behalf of the university for:
- Undergraduate or postgraduate admission
- Hostel bed spaces
- Employment or recruitment
So, if anyone claims they have “inside connections” and asks for payment to help you secure any of these, the university says that person is not representing UNIABUJA.
Warning to the public
UNIABUJA advised members of the public to completely ignore these fraudulent offers and report them through the appropriate channels.
The university also stated that anyone who chooses to deal with such scammers does so at their own risk, and UNIABUJA will not be responsible for any financial or personal losses arising from such dealings.
Where to make enquiries or report issues
All legitimate enquiries about admission, hostel accommodation, and employment should be directed to:
- SERVICOM Unit
- Directorate of Information and University Relations
UNIABUJA also urged the public to rely only on its verified communication platforms.
Official UNIABUJA contact channels
For your safety, the university listed its approved channels as follows:
- Website: UNIABUJA official website
- Email: [email protected]
- Facebook: University of Abuja on Facebook
- X (Twitter): @UofANigeria
- Phone lines: 0903 683 6734, 08033063743
Any message or offer that does not come through these channels — especially those that sound secretive, urgent, or pushy — should be treated as a red flag.
Final word
UNIABUJA’s message is simple: there are no shortcuts to admission, hostel spaces, or jobs at the University of Abuja. If someone is asking you to pay to “sort” anything, it is a scam.
Always verify, use only official channels, and report anything suspicious.
