RSU Sets January 28 for 44th Matriculation, Releases Full Gown Collection and Penalty Details

Rivers State University (RSU) has officially announced plans for its 44th matriculation ceremony, marking the formal induction of newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

In a notice signed by the Acting Registrar, Dr. Idanyingi F. Daminabo, the university outlined the ceremony date, time, venue, procedures for academic gown collection, return deadlines, and penalties for defaulters.


Matriculation Date, Time, and Venue

According to the announcement, RSU’s 44th matriculation ceremony is scheduled as follows:

  • Date: Wednesday, 28 January 2026
  • Time: 9:00 a.m. prompt
  • Venue: University Convocation Arena

The university emphasized punctuality, as matriculation is a compulsory academic exercise for all fresh students.

Who Must Collect Academic Gowns

RSU directed all registered fresh students admitted for the 2025/2026 session to collect academic gowns for the ceremony.

Gown collection will be handled through faculty channels, meaning students must visit their respective Faculty Officers.

When Gown Collection Begins

  • Start Date: Friday, 23 January 2026

From this date, eligible students can begin collecting their gowns from their Faculty Officers.

Requirements for Gown Collection

Before an academic gown can be issued, students are required to present the following:

  • Evidence of payment of acceptance fee and other mandatory charges
  • Two (2) recent passport photographs
  • Printed copy of the online admission letter, along with a valid residential address and phone number

University officials warned that failure to present all required documents may delay or prevent gown collectio

Deadline for Return of Academic Gowns

RSU set a strict deadline for returning academic gowns:

  • On or before Friday, 30 January 2026

The university stressed that this deadline is mandatory for all matriculating students.

Penalty for Late Return

Students who fail to return their gowns by the stipulated date will face the following penalties:

  • ₦5,000 per day, chargeable for up to one week after the deadline

The management advised students to return their gowns early to avoid accumulating daily penalties.

Portal Deactivation After One Week

RSU further stated that:

  • After one week of default, the student’s portal will be deactivated
  • The portal will only be reopened after payment of a fixed, non-negotiable ₦10,000 reopening fee

University’s Message to Matriculants

The university described the matriculation ceremony as a key academic tradition that formally welcomes new students into the RSU community. Management also wished all matriculating students a peaceful and successful ceremony.
