NECO Cracks Down on Examination Fraud: A Call for Integrity in Education

In a strong message to school owners and education stakeholders, the National Examinations Council (NECO) has issued a decisive warning against the practice of registering candidates for examinations through proxies. This alarming trend has not only led to identity theft but also the issuance of fraudulent results, and NECO is determined to put a stop to it.

Combating Examination Malpractice

To tackle this issue head-on, NECO has implemented several innovative measures aimed at preventing all forms of examination malpractice, particularly impersonation. Here’s how they plan to protect the integrity of their exams:

  1. Biometric Data Capturing Devices: These devices will ensure that only the registered candidate sits for the exam.
  2. Customized Answer Booklets: Each candidate will receive a unique answer booklet to minimize cheating.
  3. Secure Certificates: Original certificates will feature embossed photographs and dates of birth to prevent forgery.

Introducing NECO e-Verify

In addition to these security enhancements, NECO has launched the NECO e-Verify platform. This online tool allows users to confirm the authenticity of NECO results easily. If a certificate cannot be verified through this system, it should be considered fake.

A Call for Genuine Registrations

NECO urges state ministries of education and school owners to use only the authentic personal details of candidates during registration for examinations. The Council’s stringent policies mean that any individuals found guilty of impersonation during the recent 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal will have their results withheld.

These proactive measures underscore NECO’s commitment to preserving the integrity of its examinations and eradicating fraudulent practices. By ensuring that all candidates are registered correctly and authentically, NECO is working towards a fairer and more trustworthy educational environment for all.

As students and educators, it’s crucial to embrace these changes and uphold the values of honesty and integrity in our educational pursuits. Let’s work together to create a brighter future!
