Modibbo Adama University Bans ‘Sign-Out’ Parties: What Students Must Know
The management of Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola, has officially banned the popular “sign-out” parties often organized by graduating students. These celebrations, which have become flashy carnival-like parades across campuses in recent years, will no longer be tolerated within the university’s premises.
Why MAU Banned Sign-Out Parties
According to the university, the decision is not only about internal discipline but also compliance with government directives. Both the Federal and State Governments had earlier placed restrictions on such activities in learning institutions, and MAU says it cannot be an exception.
The school further explained that a university degree is not just about academic success but also about character and discipline. Management believes that the rowdy and sometimes unruly nature of these sign-out parades does not reflect the standard of behaviour expected from its graduates.
The Consequences for Defaulters
The university issued a clear warning to all students: anyone caught organizing or participating in a sign-out party, “in whatever guise,” will face disciplinary consequences.
MAU has empowered its Security Office to monitor compliance and has even involved the Department of State Security (DSS) to enforce the ban. In short, offenders will be acting at their own risk.
The University’s Final Word
The message from management is firm and direct: sign-out parties are banned, full stop.
Students are urged to celebrate their achievements in ways that uphold respect, order, and discipline. The university reassured graduates that degrees will still be awarded, but their conduct leading up to convocation will be closely watched.
