LASU Cracks Down on Unauthorized Filming as Campus Content Creation Surges
Lagos State University (LASU) has issued a firm warning over the rising use of its campuses and facilities for social media content creation without official approval, citing concerns about misinformation, offensiveness, and reputational damage.
In a statement released by the university management, LASU acknowledged the creativity and self-expression of students and young content creators but expressed concern that some videos, skits, and short clips recorded on campus and shared online have been misleading or offensive.
According to the university, such content does not reflect LASU’s core values and could negatively shape public perception of the institution.
“While creativity is encouraged, the learning environment must be protected, and the dignity of the university preserved,” the statement emphasized.
Approval Now Mandatory for All Filming on Campus
To restore order and safeguard its academic environment, LASU has directed that all cinematographic and recording activities on its campuses must receive prior approval.
Students, staff members, and members of the public who wish to film within any LASU campus are required to obtain permission from the Centre for Information and Public Relations (CIPR).
The Centre is located on the 3rd Floor of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Ojo Main Campus.
The directive covers all forms of audiovisual recording, including but not limited to:
- Comedy skits
- Vox pop interviews
- Short films
- Promotional or brand videos
- Social media content and related productions
The policy applies to lecture halls, hostels, open spaces, and all university facilities.
Strict Rules on Drone Usage
LASU also warned against the unauthorized use of drones within its premises.
The management stated clearly that no drone operations are permitted on campus without written clearance from the University Security Department. This measure, according to the institution, is necessary to ensure safety, privacy, and overall campus security.
Students Urged to Comply
The university advised students and content creators to strictly follow these guidelines before producing any content on campus, noting that compliance will help avoid unnecessary sanctions and misunderstandings.
LASU management concluded by appreciating the cooperation of students, staff, and visitors in upholding the institution’s image and maintaining a conducive learning environment.
