KWASU Set to Hold 12th Convocation Ceremony: All You Need to Know

Kwara State University (KWASU) is gearing up for its 12th convocation ceremony, set to take place on Saturday, December 14, 2024. The event will celebrate the awarding of first and postgraduate degrees, alongside the presentation of various prizes. With a variety of exciting events lined up leading to the big day, here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming convocation.

Convocation Schedule: A Look Ahead

Day 1: Tuesday, 10th December 2024

  • Vice Chancellor’s Press Briefing
    Time: 11:00 a.m.
    Venue: Muhammadu Buhari Main Library, KWASU Campus, Malete
  • Official Opening of Exhibition by University Units
    Time: Immediately after the press briefing
    Venue: Muhammadu Buhari Main Library, KWASU Campus, Malete
  • Football Match (Academic Staff vs Non-Teaching Staff)
    Time: 3:00 p.m.
    Venue: University Stadium Complex, Malete

Day 2: Thursday, 12th December 2024

  • Convocation Lecture by Emeritus Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo
    Topic: “The Optimum Utilisation of Nigeria’s Energy Resources for the Sustainable Growth and Development of the Nation”
    Time: 11:00 a.m.
    Venue: Mini Convocation Arena
  • Convocation Play: “Mojagbe” by Ahmed Yerima
    Time: 11:00 a.m.
    Venue: Ultra-Modern Performing Arts Building, KWASU Campus, Malete

Day 3: Saturday, 14th December 2024

  • Convocation Ceremony for Award of Degrees and Prizes
    Time: 10:00 a.m.
    Venue: Ultra-Modern Performing Arts Building, KWASU Campus, Malete
    Note: All guests are expected to be seated by 9:00 a.m.

Important Information for Graduands

  • Name Check: All graduating students must check their names on the KWASU website to confirm their eligibility for the convocation.
  • Guest Invitation: Each graduand is allowed to invite one guest.
  • Issuance of Invitation Cards & Academic Gowns: Invitation cards and gowns will be distributed starting Thursday, December 12, 2024, following the convocation lecture.

Convocation Charges

  • Undergraduate Students: ₦35,000 (includes gown hire, certificate scroll, alumni fees, and certificate).
  • Postgraduate Students: ₦60,000 (includes similar provisions as for undergraduates).

Note: Graduands must present proof of payment and a clearance certificate to receive their certificate scrolls after the convocation.

Additional Requirements for Graduands

  • Rehearsal: All graduands must attend the mandatory rehearsal for the academic procession on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 2:30 p.m.
  • Dress Code: Graduands are required to wear formal attire, either full English wear or national attire, along with the approved academic gown.
  • Convocation Day: Graduands must arrive on campus by 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2024, for the procession, which begins at 8:00 a.m. Latecomers will not be allowed into the convocation arena.

Gown Return and Penalties

  • Return Deadline: Hired academic gowns must be returned to Faculty Officers by Friday, December 20, 2024.
  • Late Return Fine: A fine of ₦500 per day will be imposed for late returns.
