JAMB Suspends Law Admissions at 8 Universities for 2025/2026 Academic Session

In a significant development for aspiring law students, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the suspension of Law admissions at eight Nigerian universities for the upcoming 2025/2026 academic session. This decision follows the withdrawal of accreditation for the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme by the Council of Legal Education (CLE) at these institutions.

Affected Universities:

  • Kwara State University
  • Bingham University
  • Redeemer’s University
  • Western Delta University
  • Taraba State University
  • Arthur Jarvis University
  • Alex Ekwueme Federal University
  • Nigerian Police Academy

Details of the Suspension:

JAMB has clarified that the suspension will last for two academic sessions at the Nigerian Police Academy, meaning that Law admissions there will be on hold for both the 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 sessions. For all other affected universities, the suspension is valid for the 2025/2026 academic year.

Official Statement from JAMB:

Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communications Advisor, confirmed the suspension in an official statement on Wednesday. He emphasized that JAMB will not process any applications for the Law programme at these universities during the suspended period. The suspension is in line with the decision made by the Council of Legal Education.

What Does This Mean for Prospective Law Students?

If you’re planning to pursue a Law degree at any of the affected institutions, you’ll need to look at alternative universities that still offer accredited Law programmes. While other courses at these universities remain unaffected, those aiming for Law will have to explore other options.

For more information, candidates are advised to visit JAMB’s official website and stay updated with any announcements from the Council of Legal Education.

Key Takeaway:

Aspiring lawyers planning to apply for the 2025/2026 academic session should be aware of this development and ensure they target universities with accredited Law programmes. This is a crucial change for prospective students, so it’s important to stay informed.
