JAMB Discontinues Printed UTME Result Slips, SMS Only Option
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the discontinuation of printed Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result slips from the 2024 exercise.
In a policy statement, JAMB stated that UTME results will henceforth be available solely through SMS (text message) on candidates’ registered mobile phone numbers.
According to the Board, the move is aimed at further enhancing the integrity of the examination process and precluding any form of fraudulent alteration or duplication of results.
Candidates who sat for the 2024 UTME will receive their result details as a text message on the same mobile numbers provided during registration a few days after the examination.
JAMB has therefore advised candidates not to visit any center or cybercafe to demand or collect printed UTME results as such requests will not be entertained.
Any candidate who does not receive their result notification via SMS a few days after the examination has been directed to use the official JAMB channels to verify and request for their result.
The new UTME result transmission policy is part of JAMB’s continued efforts to leverage technology to ensure a seamless, transparent, and secure admission process.
Education stakeholders have lauded the initiative as a progressive step to curb examination malpractices and activities of criminal syndicates involved in result racketeering.
However, some have also raised concerns about the reliability of the SMS system and network challenges which could impede candidates from receiving their results.
JAMB has provided dedicated support lines and channels for candidates to verify their results and submit inquiries or complaints regarding the new policy.
The 2024 UTME was held between April 29 and May 12 across approved centers in Nigeria, with over 2 million candidates participating.
