JAMB Clears the Air on Exam Centre Rumors — Here’s What Every Candidate Must Know

In response to growing misinformation online and in some schools, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a firm statement clarifying how it assigns exam centres to candidates. The Board says all claims that it sends candidates to towns they did not choose are false and meant to damage its reputation.
This announcement comes as part of a wider effort by JAMB to help candidates understand the exam process better, especially with the rise of fake news during the registration period.

How JAMB Assigns Exam Centres
According to JAMB, the process is clear and fair. During registration, candidates are allowed to select their preferred examination town. The Board then assigns each candidate to a Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre within that chosen town — not outside it.
“No candidate is posted to another town. That information is false and misleading,” JAMB emphasized.
What Happens if You Have Proof
JAMB is putting its money where its mouth is.
If any candidate can prove that they were assigned to a town different from the one they selected during registration, JAMB is offering a cash reward.
- The proof must be real and verifiable.
- It must be submitted within 96 hours.
- Send your evidence to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) via WhatsApp at 08056003030.
FCCPC will investigate the claim and either reward the candidate or publicly confirm JAMB’s correctness.
Why You Must Arrive Early
JAMB is also reminding all candidates to get to their exam centres at least 90 minutes before the start time.
This extra time is used for:
- Candidate verification
- Biometric checks
- Other security procedures
Think of it like boarding a flight — no one walks in just before takeoff. If you miss the checks, you miss the exam.
A Strange Case from a Recent Exam
In one surprising incident, a female candidate refused to write her exam. Her reason?
She said her grandfather told her to “wait for a miracle.”
JAMB responded by saying that hard work and preparation are the only ways to pass the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
“No miracle will write the exam for you,” JAMB said.
Steps to Prepare and Succeed
- Ignore false claims about centre posting.
- Trust the official process laid out by JAMB.
- Arrive early and be ready for checks.
- Study hard — success comes to those who prepare.
Bottom Line: If you’re sitting for the UTME, focus on preparation, trust the official information, and ignore distractions. Misinformation can ruin your exam experience — don’t let it.
