JAMB CAPS 2026: Check Your Results & University Clearance
Your complete guide to checking JAMB CAPS 2026 results, understanding post-UTME scores, and navigating the university clearance process in Nigeria.
It’s that time of the year again! If you’re a Nigerian student awaiting JAMB CAPS 2026 results, or you’re already preparing for university clearance, this guide is for you. With universities like the University of Ilorin and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) now automating their clearance processes, understanding how to navigate your JAMB admission status has never been more important.
What Is JAMB CAPS and Why Should You Check It?
JAMB CAPS (Central Admission Processing System) is the official platform where the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) publishes your admission status after the UTME examination. Therefore, checking your JAMB CAPS is crucial because it determines whether you’ve been offered admission to your choice institution and programme.
In addition to JAMB scores, universities now combine your O-level results and post-UTME performance to calculate your final admission aggregate. This means your overall success depends on multiple factors, not just your JAMB score alone.
How to Check Your JAMB CAPS for 2026 Admissions
- Visit the official JAMB website at www.jamb.org.ng
- Log in using your JAMB Registration Number and password
- Navigate to the ‘CAPS’ section on your dashboard
- Your admission status, allocated institution, and programme will be displayed
- Take a screenshot or print your results for your records
Understanding Your Post-UTME Results and Aggregate Score
However, many students struggle to understand how their final admission aggregate is calculated. Universities use a formula combining your JAMB score (usually 40%), O-level grades (typically 30%), and post-UTME score (30%). OAU’s 2026 post-UTME results included a helpful calculator to show students their combined scores.
Knowing your aggregate gives you a clearer picture of your competitive position and whether you’re likely to get your choice programme.
University Clearance Process for 2025/2026 Intake
Furthermore, universities have upgraded their clearance systems. The University of Ilorin officially automated clearance for 2025/2026 graduating students, meaning less paperwork and faster processing. Therefore, once you confirm your admission, you’ll need to:
- Complete your online clearance on your university portal
- Pay acceptance fees (usually N5,000–N10,000)
- Upload required documents (birth certificate, O-level results, etc.)
- Print your clearance letter after verification
What If Your State Had Poor NECO Performance?
Recently, there was controversy regarding state-by-state NECO results. According to reports, Akwa Ibom had only 37.42% of candidates meeting the five-credit benchmark in core subjects, placing it among the lowest-performing states. Nevertheless, this shouldn’t discourage you—your individual JAMB and post-UTME scores matter more than state-level statistics when it comes to personal admission.
